|Charles M. Moyer|
Served as highway superintendent for town of Stark
VAN HORNESVILLE - Charles M. Moyer, 86, of Primrose Lane, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in his home.
He was born July 1, 1918, in Van Hornesville, son of the late Fred and Lulu Moyer.
A lifelong Van Hornesville resident, he was raised on the family farm and was educated in Van Hornesville schools. On Sept. 7, 1943, he married Hazel Van Brink in the Starkville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Moyer had owned and operated the Moyer dairy farm until 1976, when he devoted himself to working for the town of Stark Highway Department. From 1968 until 1983, he served as superintendent of that department. He then worked for the Herkimer County Highway Department until his retirement in 1988.
He had a life membership in both the Herkimer County Highway Superintendents Association and the Van Hornesville Volunteer Fire Department. Charles had a strong love for the outdoors and was known to be an avid hunter. He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Hazel; two sons and their wives, Charles F. and Donna Moyer of Jordanville and Robert J. and Kay Moyer of Van Hornesville, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, one brother, Rowland Moyer, a sister, Viola Beebe and a nephew, Algy Beebe, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. Kenneth Dingman will officiate. Interment will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery.
The family will be present at the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Van Hornesville Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
