    Obituary

    Theodore Smith, an old resident of Johnstown, died of heart failure at 11:50 o'clock Wednesday night at his home, No. 16 East Pine street, in that city. Mr. Smith was 69 years of age and was born in Waverly, Ohio. He is survived by his wife and two sons, William T. Smith of the firm of Smith & Kloss of Johnstown, and Ceylon J. Smith, general superintendent of the plant of the A.R. Clark Leather company. He also leaves one daughter, Lucy M. Smith; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Ferguson of Mayfield, and one brother, Van Smith of New York city. Mr. Smith responded to duty's call and enlisted in Company K of the 34th Regiment, New York volunteers, at Herkimer, in 1861. He served two years with the company and was honorably discharged in the year 1863. He re-enlisted in the same year in Company B of the 16th regiment, New York heavy artillery, serving until the year 1865, at which time he was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He took a great interest in Grand Army affairs.

    Mr. Smith at the close of the war was married to Miss Elizabeth Van Valkenburgh, of Herkimer, and shortly afterward they took up their residence in Johnstown. He was a leather dresser by occupation
