Samuel became a wealthy merchant in Boston. He held several city and state
elected positions. He, and many others, were involved in the failure of the
Land Bank, as a result of which he lost his property including his homestead of
Summer Street.

Notes:

Brought to New England by her father in 1638. During the Indian attack which
killed her husband, Elizabeth was very ill in bed in the house of Rev.John
Wilson who was a physician as well as a minister and had her under his care.
During the battle, a gun in the hands of Capt. John Jacob accidentally
discharged in the room below and the ball passed through her as she lie in
her bed and resulted in her death the next day.

In Memory of HENRY ADAMS who took his flight from the Dragon persecution in Devonshire in England, and alighted with eight sons, near Mount Wollaston. One of the sons returned to England, and after taking time to explore the country, four removed to Medfield and the neighboring towns; two to Chelmsford. One only, Joseph, who lies here at his left hand, remained here, who was an original proprietor in the township of Briantree, incorporated in 1639. This stone and several others have been placed in this yard, by a great-great grandson, from a veneration of the Piety, humility, simplicity, prudence, patience, temperance, frugality, industry and perseverance, of his Ancestors, in hopes of Recommending an imitation of their virtures to their posterity. ... Erected December, 1823.

Jonathan remained in England when his family emigrated to New England in 1638
and lived on a farm in Baltonsborough owned by his grandfather, Henry Squire.
Later emigrated to New England (about 1651) and settled in Medfield.

First marriage produced 3 children.

Second marriage produced 6 children - Some confusion about identification of
second wife-Bartlett names Elizabeth Holman. Others name Elizabeth Fussell.
