Federal Census: 1900 - Joseph age 43 yrs old a machinist (probably in the cotton mills) lived 83 Beach Street, Pawtucket City, RI with his wife Elizabeth age 44 yrs old a weaver of cotton and his father Thomas age 66 yrs old a weaver of cotton, and his mother Mary Ann age 67 yrs. old. Thomas and Elizabeth were married 43 yrs. had three children. Only Joseph is living. They immigrated from England with their son Joseph to US in 1859, 41 yrs ago. Elizabeth immigrated from England in 1858, has been married 7 years with no children.

JOSEPH BARBER: In 1829 ( age 25) Joseph was a Shoemaker in Hollingworth, Cheshire. He is listed in Dukinfield (Lancs., near Stalybridge) in 1832 at Cross Leech Street living with his wife Elizabeth, age 30, and their children, Sarah age 21, Thomas age 18, William age 15, Miles age 10, Josephine age 7 and Elizabeth age 4. Again in 1841 in the Manchester and Salford Directory for Stalybridge at the same address - and he is a SHOEMAKER.

[HOLLINGWORTH is a township in Mottram-in-Longdendale Parish, Macclesfield Hundred (SK 0196). In 1936 it became part of the civil parish of Longdendale, and in 1974 the area was transferred to the county of Greater Manchester. The population was 910 in 1801, St. Michael was the ancient parish church for Hollingworth.]

SADDLEWORTH is made up of three villages that all seem to go under the collective name of Saddleworth

He married (1) ELIZABETH MOORE/WOOD11 February 10, 1664/65 in Medfield, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts12. He married (2) SARAH THURSTON April 29, 1684. Samuel raised the alarm when Indians attacked Medfield in 1676. 1680; Medfield, MA voted to grant 50 acres of land for a mill on the Charles River, and to exempt the mill from taxes for seven years. It was built at the Bent, now Rockville by; John Metcalf Sr., John Partridge Sr., Samuel Morse, Edward Adams, Joseph Allen, John Metcalf Jr., Nathaniel Allen, George Barber, Ephraim Wight, Samuel Barber, John Plympton, and Benjamin Wheelock. From "History of the Towns of Sherborn and Holiston," by Rev. Abner Morse in 1856: Isaac Bullard, settled in Sherborn, now North part of Holliston, drew 1715 and 1730, in Douglas, 70 acres. He made his will July 6, 1742, giving the improvement of his house and land to his wife Sarah during the minority of his son, Isaac, after which Isaac should occupy one half until her decease, when an equal division of what had been his home lands, including 70 acres priviously given to his son Samuel, should be made to the two sons. He also mentioned his three daughters, all then living and married. Sarah and Samuel were made executors, and presented their account Sept. 1743. His estate was appraised Sept. 15, 1742, but his will (see Mid. Prob.) seems not to have been proved. Sarah was appointed , Aug. 13, 1742, guardian to her son Isaac, then in his 16th Year.
