  Gershom SMITH is listed in the 1790 census residing in the Canajoharie district (then including Stark). Family tradition has it that he and his bridecame from Princeton, New Jersy in 1789, settling on the farm at the intersection of Traivs and Puskarenko roads, east of the Otsquago settlement. Dates of Gershom Smith family come from a Bible owned by Mrs Linn Kinne of Utica, granddaughter of Sarah Ann Smith. He was a farmer in the town of Stark. In the 1799 Minden tax List he has real property worth $1095 and personal property worth $136.
