Gail Patricia Root VanBrink, 76, of West Edmeston, NY was called home by the Lord on April 10, 2017 at her home following a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born June 6, 1940 in Leonardsville, NY the daughter of Horace J. and Doris Burch Root. She married Tommy B. VanBrink on November 18, 1961 at the First Baptist Church of West Edmeston. Gail was first employed at New York Central Insurance Company in the office building in Edmeston which is currently the Town Municipal Building. She was also employed by Gates-Cole Ins. Co. in West Winfield for several years. After leaving Gates-Cole, she spent some years caring for her grandchildren and eventually retired from the US Postal Service as a Post Master Relief. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of West Edmeston. There she touched the lives of many children as a Sunday School teacher. In later years, she was in charge of the Sunshine Club at church spreading cheer to many folks during rough & sad times. Gail will also be fondly remembered for her love of the Village of West Edmeston and for her Sunshine Club in the village, as well as her instrumentation and dedication to the formation and organization of the West Edmeston Garage Sale Days. Other than her family, Gail loved gardening and tending her flower beds and so much loved feeding and watching her backyard birds. They brought her many hours of enjoyment. Gail is survived by her Husband, Tom VanBrink; Daughter and Son-in-law, Brenda & Darren Belden; Son-in-law, Donald Snell; Grandchildren Chris & Samantha Belden, Erica and Dustin Thall, Bradley and Trinity Belden, Amanda and Gary Ray; Great-Grandchildren Brayden, Miles, Lyndon, Brycen and Brooke Belden, Benjamin Ray, McKenzie and Hunter Thall; Sister-in-law Judy (Ben) Benjamin, Brother-in-law Gus (ClaraMae) VanBrink; Nieces Karen (Bob) Zaleski, Tracy (Ken) Plows, Halicine (Rick) DuBose, Analyn (Brad) Coker and Nephew Whitney (Ellen) VanBrink. Gail was predeceased by her daughter, Connie Snell; parents, Horace and Doris Root; Father/Mother-in-law Frank and Una VanBrink; and sister Karen Root. Gail\'s family would like to extend a special thank you to the members of the Catskill Area Hospice staff and to Amanda Livingston for their assistance with, and special care of, Gail over the past year. Calling hours will be held at the First Baptist Church of West Edmeston on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm. with the Rev. George Hopper and Rev. Gary Busch officiating. Burial will follow in the West Edmeston Cemetery with Pastor Mark Thall officiating.
